China Imperial sacrifice

This advisory is followed by a 18 picture feature package on a rehearsal of a reenactment of the Imperial sacrifice ritual at the Earth Altar in Beijing, China 23 January 2009.

A mix of actors and police and security workers have been donning Qing dynasty uniforms complete with pigtail hairpieces to put on a colourful spectacle for the public. The performance will be the centrepiece of a temple fair during the upcoming Spring Festival, or Chinese New Year commencing 26 January. EPA/ADRIAN BRADSHAW
