4. What is the lesson from the passage?
One cowboy from Kansas is on a mission to show the world that people are still good. The man noticed that every night the news reported stories that he referred to as "doom and gloom." He wanted to prove to the American people that there are still good, honest, hard-working people in the US. So he saddled up his horse and headed across the country on horseback. His plan is to ride from state to state, gathering stories from people he meets along the way. He is completing his mission at his own expense, dipping into his personal savings to pay for his travel. His wife is on the road with him, driving a pickup and trailer with provisions for the family, horse and their three dogs. The cowboy hopes his trip, which he calls "Uncovering America by Horseback," will eventually be turned into a documentary, and he also plans to write a book of his travels. The trip has been encouraging for the man. He has been met with endless generosity and encouragement, proving to him that many good people do exist in spite of the negative messages seen on television. This dream of proving the goodness of people may inspire others to search for the same.
