March madness with `DRUMLine Live` in Seoul

Based on the 2002 sleeper-hit "Drumline" that launched the career of teen heart-throb Nick Cannon, the live performance-based interpretation will cross the Pacific to Korea early next month.

After wrapping up their 25 state North American tour, which began in January, the marching band troupe is scheduled to give four shows at the Olympic Hall in southern Seoul on May 1-3.

Members of the highly regarded 40-piece marching band will showcase their multi-tasking skills through elaborate dance choreography while banging out beats backed by a brass band consisting of trumpets, trombones, saxophones, tubas, flutes and euphoniums.

Known for their energy and explosive sound, the band consists of 32 members on brass instruments and eight on snare drums.

The concept of the "Drumline Live" show is the first of its kind where a marching band has organized a series of large scale performance-based concerts. Korea and Japan will be the troupe`s first venues abroad with a performance in Taiwan currently being negotiated.

Although the impetus for the live concerts came from the popularity of the feature film, the concept of it is based on the Historically Black College and University marching band tradition.

With riveting rhythms, bold beats and ear-grabbing energy, the staged show will be a synchronized musical showcase of the HBCU experience that will incorporate original compositions and soul-infused interpretations of top 40 hits.

Group performances will range from choreographed routines to heavy doses of drum riffs and cadences.

"DRUMLine Live" is the brain-child of Don Roberts, who served as the technical consultant on the feature and said he envisioned a live performance-based version during the production of the film.

It was only after the film`s popular reception from audiences throughout North America that he gained the confidence to turn his vision into a reality.
