PANEL ANNOUNCES DAVID FREDERIK ATTENBOROUGH IS THE WINNER OF 2009 PRINCE OF ASTURIAS AWARD FOR SOCIAL SCIENCE
Chairman of Prince of Asturias Award for Social Science's Panel, Manuel Fraga (C), announces British naturalist David Frederik Attenborough is the winner of 2009 Prince of Asturias Award for Social Science accompanied by the panel's members during a press conference 04 June 2009 in Oviedo, Asturias region, northern Spain. According to panel, Attenborough won the award for 'his work, which is one of the main contributions to the defense of wildlife and Earth conservation'. Spanish Crown Prince Felipe de Borbon will hand in the Prince of Asturias Awards in a ceremony taking place in October at Campoamor Theater, in Oviedo. Each of the Awards consists of a prize money of 50,000 euro and a replica of a sculpture by Spanish artist Joan Miro. Prince of Asturias Awards are composed of eight categories including Scientific Research; Communication and Humanities; Social Science; Arts; Literature; International Cooperation; Concord, and Sports.
