(45) Fate of a Female Singer in Korea and#8212; Stem Combination

By Janet Shin

What makes one's life happy and what makes it miserable? Most people experience misfortune in their lives. It can be a loss of your beloved ones, reputation, or money.

Money seems to be considered the most important factor in our lives these days, but people usually overcome the loss of money much easier and quicker than other factors.

A very famous Korean singer appeared on a TV talk show. She is one of the most popular female singers who sing romantic ballads. Her song was named the best ballad song of the year. However, she went through miserable years after a sex video scandal in 2001. It was so severe that she had to break off all social relations until she made a comeback in 2006.

Let's look at her saju to see how the fate can be read by her four pillars:

She is very talented in her expression of emotion. Her day master is byeong fire with sin metal (jewelry) next to the day master. And she also has water energy to wash the jewelry. We can portray clean and shiny jewelry by her saju.

After her successful debut in 1999, she had to step back because of the sex video scandal. She disappeared from the public eye until her comeback in 2006 (byeong-sul). That year, many people loved her song and she gained fame again. On the TV show, she talked about the pain that she endured when she stopped singing in public. However the pain helped her mature, and now she can sing beautiful songs that touch people's hearts.

We find many female celebrities have byeong, jeong fire, eul wood (flower) or sin metal (jewelry) as their day masters. They all mean brightness, shine, and beauty. While many athletes have gap wood or gyeong metal, and many political leaders have mu earth, gap wood, gyeong, sin metal or im water as their day masters.

In terms of stem combination - byeong and sin - in this lady's saju, sin metal (money) combines with byeong of her year stem, instead of byeong of her day master. We can read that she doesn't care much about the money fortune while she has good talents (jin earth). What she has to pursue is the love of people instead of money.

In the year 2006 (byeong-sul), she was able to come back for the clashes between the jin (year branch) and sul (2006 branch). Why do clashes have good impact on certain people, and not on others? She could get sin metal from sul inclusion after clashing ― sul has sin (metal), jeong (fire) and mu (earth) for it's inclusions.

As we see in this saju, clashes do not always have a bad impact but they sometimes provide a breakthrough event.

We all face challenges in our lives. When the injury or illness disables us and restricts certain things, positive people think they still have 90 things they can do while they cannot handle 10 things. We may live our remaining years regretting the lost 10 things or continue to do our best for the 90 things. It is up to us to decide.

We don't have to care much about what happened to us in the past. What we should be concerned about is what and how we handle the all of our experiences.

First of all, we need to know that combinations in saju come with tension, concern, and unease. It is the feeling of being tied up or being bound. While we also can explain the combination comes from the compatibility of two different stems or branches. Especially the combinations of stems are the feelings of forfeiture and it is futile because their elements disappear after combination.

There are certain rules in stem combinations,

1. The stems are not combined with each other when they are placed apart. Once they lose their force, they don't exist any more.

2. The day stem is the owner saju, so the day stem will change after all other stems' get the combinations. As above saju, the day stem cannot combine with sin metal of the month stem as it combines with byeong (year stem) first.
